Paul Degen has been playing flute since Elementary School and saxophone since Middle School. In High School he entered the Gifted and Talented program with an emphasis on woodwind performance. In College, Paul studied Classical Flute (Charles DeLaney) and Jazz Saxophone (Bill Kennedy) at Florida State University, and by his senior year sat in the coveted lead alto chair in the top FSU Jazz Ensemble.
After College Paul moved to Los Angeles to begin his career as a professional musician and teacher. He has been performing and teaching ever since. Paul teaches Flute (Beginning and Intermediate) and Saxophone (all levels), as well as Jazz Improvisation. While in Santa Barbara, he taught Jazz Improvisation Master Classes for the Santa Barbara City College Summer Jazz Program. He has also been active as a professional woodwind and brass instrument repair technician for over two decades.
Paul loves to share his passion for instrumental music through his creative but thorough approach to teaching musicians of all ages and levels, with students ranging in age from 4 to 84.
